Maven Systems’ GPS enabled devices help Mumbai police to ensure safe Ganesh Visarjan

Maven Systems’ state of the art GPS enabled camera equipped vehicle tracking devices were used by Mumbai Police to ensure safe Ganpati Visarjan – a huge procession that spanned across every street of Mumbai. This was for the first time in India that any state police used GPS + camera devices to monitor and control the procession.

The complete procession was monitored from a single screen that allowed better traffic management and control. Pictures / video enabled effective crowd control. The hightech solution sent instant notifications and alerts in case the vehicle moved out of designated route. A panic switch was provided which could be used to report emergency situations immediately to the control room.

Notifications in the form of SMS could be sent to a group of people – this helped hugely in case the monitoring station in the control room was left unattended. Emails and event logs also helped to analyze the sequence of events.

The device mounted on the vehicles had built-in GPS receiver for fetching co-ordinates, a camera for real time photos and GSM modem for transferring data over GPRS. The devices worked non-stop in harsh environmental conditions like rains, dust and use of gulal (special dry colors hurled in air during processions in India). The devices were extremely easy to install and it took hardly 15 minutes for the vehicles to get equipped with the devices that were used for the first time in India!
